Anima’s Captain
Tomer Lanis
Captain Tomer Lanis aboard Anima II

The first time Tomer crossed an ocean, from New Zealand to Fiji, he knew it: this is where he belongs. The motion, the soft sound of the hull breaking the water, the sea breeze – were intoxicating. He spent several months sailing Fijian waters, putting food on the table by spear-fishing and coconut-cracking.

Since then, sailing has always been an integral part of Tomer’s life. He’s been sailing over 40,000 nautical miles in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Indian and Pacific oceans.

Tomer’s dry-land career was focused on coaching and consulting in the area of corporate culture. He also led courses at the university in Zurich on International Business and Intercultural Management.

While living in the land-locked country of cheese and chocolate, Tomer has been taking guests on sailing trips on the magnificent lake Lucerne. He loves to see people of all ages grow confidence and joy in harnessing the wind and operating a sailboat.

As the call of the ocean grew louder, Tomer swapped snowy mountains for tropical waters. In 2023 he accepted a captain role of a sailing university class, taking groups of 25 students and 7 staff on life-changing voyages around the world. The students as well as the staff benefited from his expertise in coaching and his experience as a sailing instructor.

In 2026 he moved from education to charter sailing: winter in the Caribbean, then summer in Greece and finally settling down in one of his all-time favorite islands, Mallorca.

Tomer holds a bachelor in law (for his mom), a master in coaching, RYA yachtmaster ocean, dive-master and an IYT professional sailing instructor.

Apart from sailing, Tomer likes hiking nature trails, cooking colorful meals, playing soft music and hard chess, swimming, scuba diving, meeting people and listening to their stories.
